This portrait belongs to the series Critics Critiqued, my first professional show. The concept for this work was a natural (if rather uninspired) progression from my student work. For my senior project, which I completed earlier in 2003, I had painted portraits of my professors, making them the subjects of their own critique. A few months later, I simply repeated the process with a new set of authority figures--before I discovered that they actually had no authority over me...
