I created this portrait posthumously. Since I never had the pleasure of meeting Don McEwen, this portrait, which was commissioned by his law firm, was created based on interviews with his closest staff and the many photos of him which they provided.
I do not make this kind of work usually. The interview and photo-session with the subject is integral to my process, and I feel that they make for the best portraits possible. That said, I did create a portrait of my cousin, Yann, who died in April 2006. I worked from a photo which I had taken myself two years earlier. |
