An old friend of David's remarked that this portrait perfectly captures the subject's "essence" with "some artistic doodads" added for good measure. This is my favorite comment I've ever heard about my work (besides maybe "you made my face plaid!"). Some of my paintings are more plaid-y than others. A portrait of my brother from 2007 brought out the extreme doodadder in me.
