Antoine de Saint-Exupery's Little Prince on a grave

We may like the idea of intellectual property at times, but for the most part we make our favorite pieces of culture our own without worrying about copyright, and this representation of the Little Prince on a grave proves it.

slide

When I graduated from college eight years ago, art students were still being taught to take slide images of their work.  SLIDES.  Tiny images that live in plastic sleeves and only rarely see the inside of a machine that makes the image big enough to be worthwhile.

I love art and especially my own art, but, in the end, what I do isn’t about art.  It’s about people.  J’aime l’art et surtout l’art que je crée, mais, en fin de compte, ce qui est important en ce que je fais n’est pas l’art.  C’est les rapports que j’ai avec les autres.

Nessa

Of course I may not be the best person to consult about this sort of thing, because I love how a friend photoshopped her face into this digital image of my work…then again, maybe that’s precisely what makes me most qualified to speak on this subject.

Art = idea + technique + person.  And the “person” part of this equation makes real art inimitable.  L’art = une idée + une technique + une personne.  Et la partie de cette équation qui est la personne rend l’art inimitable.
