A few days ago, Mistress Clarissa approached me about drawing something to go with a poem she’d written.  I answered with a video of me doing the drawing as well as with an image of the drawing, and she responded with this video.

a white woman's back

There are times when I have to make art in order to be able to make other art.

That’s what drawing is for me.  Voilà comment le dessin fonctionne chez moi.

painting of white-throated sparrows

My credibility as the author of Crime Against Nature, a book about science, has been called into question now and again.

painting of a little girl

A lesson from the small side.  Une leçon sur la petitesse.

bluehead wrasse painting

When artists make changes to the sort of work they create, it can upset fans, but, when they understand how their brand works, their evolution is received quite differently by their audience.

My partner and I both drew me recently as I recorded our progress.

Sometimes it’s easy to see when I’ve grown as an artist.

acrylic painting of a little boy

Sometimes the only way to really learn something is to jump in with both feet, and one little part of this little painting shows how true that is.

Drawing as meditation / Dessiner, méditer

drawing of a woman

I’ve never been much for meditation.  In fact, it’s when I try to tell my brain to be quiet that the real noise begins.  That said, I do know how to find peace regularly.

painting of a white cat

I paint pets and I love doing it, no matter what some people believe it says about my work.

Why call a brushstroke “wrong” when it’s just part of the journey?
