Art in the mall
And I’m not talking about the accidental art of the window dressings of certain stores either.

As fascinating as the playful misogyny of Forever XXI’s display may be…

...I doubt it was intended as a commentary on our culture.

In a different part of Pioneer Place however there is deliberate art.

The top floor of one building has been taken over by the Settlement, a group of four experimental galleries which fill empty retail spaces.

Last weekend, the venues held a reception, and my Subjective collaborator Becca Bernstein was in attendance.

What wonderful use of the empty spaces! Portland is full of talented artists, and those displayed are but a fraction of what is out there. It’s good to see, and this was a great post about it.
