So far in my career, portraiture has been my everything, but recently I’ve been tempted away from my calling.

Jusqu’à présent dans ma carrière, le portrait a été ma passion unique, mais récemment je me sens tentée par d’autres modes d’expression.

Jennifer Untalan...

I’m drawn to your work for the color and texture and energy you imbue it with, portrait or otherwise.  Looking forward to seeing what’s coming next!

Thank you, Jennifer!

Intriguing news! Details forthcoming?

Gwenn...

I don’t know.  I haven’t started painting yet—still researching—and I’m thinking that the show won’t happen until next year.  Maybe I’ll reveal bits and pieces as I paint…we’ll see!  It’s still not real to me that I don’t have any subject-collaborators for this series…

Celeste Bergin...

I liked your film…and I don’t think you should feel anxious at all..because you’re the best person to know what you should do next! smile I’ll be watching to see what this new thing is.

Gwenn...

Thanks Celeste!  I just don’t want portraiture to think I was just using it and now I’m ditching it.  It’s a genre with a fragile ego…or it is in my mind anyway.  That probably says a lot about me! wink

Very curious of what you’re going to be painting and really after you’ve done them how you feel about portraits, and if your going to become a polyamorous artist devoted to all her loves. This is assuming you’re going to love your new series, which I’m sure you will. You have an interesting conversation coming up with portraiture about sharing the bed.

Gwenn...

I doubt that this new direction will ever be as important to me as portraits, but I’m open to the possibility.

More than anything else, this adventure is forcing me to redefine myself as an artist.  It’s helping me to see that it’s not portraits that tie my vision together: it’s something a bit more subtle.  And exploring those subtleties—with and without portraiture—is going to be fun!

Carolyn...

Ah…your worked may have been largely portraiture, but I see your work as portraying personality and spirit. That could take any form, and I imagine anything you create would continue to do that, whether representational or abstract. I look forward to seeing your most recent work. You are the most fascinating artist I have come across on the internet and am thrilled with the energy and creativity you bring to art. Thank you, Gwenn.

I also appreciate that your blog is bilingual!

Thank you Carolyn for all your nice words and also for helping me reframe my identity as an artist.  I really like what you say about portraying personality and spirit…!
