Art is always successful for the same reason, whether it’s well-made or not.

L’art réussit toujours pour la même raison, que l’œuvre soit bien faite ou non.

I love all my artworks equally, but there are some paintings that I am just a bit more proud of than others. It’s usually not for reasons I can readily explain, but, in this case, I know exactly where the feelings come from. I’m very pleased with the way I included copies of the subject’s own figure drawings along the bottom portion of the painting. Daughter is from a series that I made in collaboration with Becca Bernstein.

Good video! I think it is a great question to ask-so long as you don’t bludgeon yourself repeatedly with it!

How can I improve my art and my story? And it’s helpful to think in these terms, just like you said, about the good story supporting art that is just so-so. Having an understanding of what is at work relieves you of the negative thinking that wow, life is so unfair, this artist gets all of the attention etc. It’s kind of freeing in a way and leaves plenty of room for everyone, if that makes sense.

Hope you are well. Thank you again!

I need to get a lot better at telling stories, I know that. I’m not saying that my art is exceptional but I know I need better stories.I used to be really good at writing fiction but I stopped doing that when I had to write so much for my business, and it’s so not the same thing to spin a fictional story as writing about my art smile

@Libby: Yes! I like that way of thinking!

@Linda: It’s not the same, for sure. But I wonder if it could be…at least a little bit…

@Gwenn In some ways, it could. Use of descriptive words etc. But I find it a lot harder

Agreed. Telling my own story is something I’m working on. It’s hard because somehow I “learned” that telling my own story was also known as “bragging” or that no one but me would be interested. It’s one of those things my inner critic brings up a lot. wink

@Hope: I hear you. For me, the courage to share about my art came from deciding that my art is valuable. From there, it was easy to share, because why wouldn’t I want to share about a thing that could be valuable to others? That said, getting to the place where I believed in the value of my work enough to share about it wasn’t easy. smile And it’s a place I have to repeatedly bring myself back to, whenever I stray into doubt.

Also, for the record, I am interested in hearing your stories. <3
