Painting a polar bear and focusing on positivity.

Peindre un ours polaire et se concentrer sur la positivité.

Part of the reason why I live so simply is that the tremendous amount of waste that humans produce weighs on me to the point where I have a hard time forgetting that it exists. I talk more about succeeding with environmental activism in this post about activism more generally.

Gwenn, I appreciate your activism. I too feel the weight of all the waste in the world. I do my part and sometimes I feel hopeless. It takes all of us, and your voice is big and beautiful. Thank you.

Well, this piece says it all! It may not be what you intended but to me, the piece says, “Last Polar Bear Standing!” There is just some sort of irony that I can’t put my finger on. And it’s significant to me because he is standing not on a glacier (which we helped to melt) but on a pile of trash (which we helped to make)! Human beings are really something.

You sure take the high road with your dad. Good for you! Not so sure a steady diet of Fox News is healthy:)

This one is a real winner! (They all are but this one speaks to me.)

Jill and I are looking at ways to live more simply than we already do.  Part of it was our recent trip to India and seeing the layers and layers of garbage and part of it is the changes in recycling.  Working outside the home, I am overwhelmed by the waste in my office and feeling like I can’t make any changes there.  Anyway, thanks for your thoughts…I enjoy your posts!

@Libby: I don’t always take the high road with him, especially recently, but whenever I don’t I risk losing a father. :(

@Sunny: It is totally overwhelming! And while I think that the actions that flesh-and-blood people take matter, I know that it’s the corporate people that need to change if we’re going to fix anything. :(
