I’m home from giving the keynote for the 4e Colloque de l’Adte in Quebec!

It’s important that everyone remember their creative self, the one that was given free reign as a child and then was slowly but surely packed away as they grew older. In fact, as I see it, part of the artists’ role in society is to help people rediscover their artist selves.

Quebec winter

There’s something so poetic about ferry rides across a river, and the ice only adds to the effect.

This beautiful abstraction is brought to you by a melty snow bank on the side of the road.

The hotel I was staying at had themed rooms. It pleased me to no end that I happened to be put in the Whitney Houston room, since she’s from New Jersey too. I felt like the patron saint of Jersey artists was watching over me.

YES YES YES !!! This year after my divorce I found a job as an animator in a school and making children realise that they are creative is my only ambition and aim ! my practice as an artist also tends to that.

Yes. So many sacrifice their creative self on the altar of ‘should’, for other people, other people’s opinions, or what they think those opinions might be. Self-expression and being creative is a near basic human need. It’s so important and so many of them end up feeling like something’s missing without realizing it is this.

Quebec looks like a beautiful area smile

@Linda: The altar of “should” is an excellent way to name the thing. And yes, Quebec was lovely!
