The mistranslation of the Little Prince / L’erreur de traduction chez le Petit Prince

2018 . 02 . 15 - Comments / Commentaires (4)

The Little Prince is one of the most translated books, and I can only hope that most of the translations do a better job than the English one.

Le Petit Prince est un des livres le plus traduit au monde, et j’espère que la plupart des traduction sont meilleure que la version anglaise.

For more about the other Chinese Zodiac goals I’ve had: the leafy seadragon, the red-sided garter snake, the appaloosa Pegasus, the goat/sheep, the chimpanzee, and the chicken.

Pour en savoir plus sur les autres buts associés au zodiaque chinois: le dragon de mer feuillu, la couleuvre rayée, Pégase en appalloosa, la chèvre et le mouton, le chimpanzé, et la poule.

renard

A few years ago, I painted another red fox for my book Crime Against Nature. I talk about the making of that painting here.

Il y a quelques années, j’ai peint un autre renard roux pour mon livre Le Crime Contre Nature. Je parle de la réalisation de cette œuvre ici.

There are so many bad translations out there. I too may be Apprivoisée but by no means tamed

Interesting. What translation would you suggest?

How about socialised? To me,, that sounds a lot better than tamed and is in use for animals too.

@Linda: Translations are often terrible and, in this case, it’s especially strange because apparently the French and English versions were published at the same time, while the author was in the US for a couple of years. You would think he was involved in the translation in that case, and maybe he was…

@Karina: Befriended. It lacks poetry and some meaning, but at least it doesn’t misrepresent what love is.
