Potential energy
I’ve been traveling a lot recently. Some of it was more about working and some of it was more about relaxing, but all of it took me away from my paints.

I’m back in my studio, and this is what I have to work on right now. There are six pieces I’ve already been painting on for a while, a stack of primed panels ready for me to start Series X on, a round commissioned piece whose canvas is curing a bit, and five frames I constructed since my return. I’ll be stretching the canvas on those frames today and in the next few weeks diving into the commission work that each of them represent.
I love times like this in the studio. I love when the energy is mostly potential. Though the sense of accomplishment I get from finishing commissions and completing series has its own special quality, I’m definitely a sucker for the moment before it all begins. When everything is possible.
