Just because I’m showing at DIVA…
The opening party for Apple Pie at Eugene’s Downtown Initiative For The Visual Arts was so much fun!

Dave is one of my oldest and dearest friends. He thought that me showing at a place that’s called DIVA was very appropriate. In my defense, it might not be all my fault if I have a big head. After all, he’s the one who drove with me down to Eugene from Portland to support me at my opening! And he also had to tell me that I was in the Oregonian on Friday morning—a committed diva would have bought out all the papers in her neighborhood before he even mentioned it!

Dave isn’t the only one who’s always there for me. My father, pictured here talking with artist and DIVA volunteer extraordinaire Kate Harnedy, came out too, along with my mother and my sweetheart.

What’s most fun at an opening is when a subject of one of my paintings comes! Kristina is the inspiration for Raha The Riveter.

The Downtown Initiative For The Visual Arts is a sweet place to show work. Anywhere between 600 and 1000 people go through its doors during the First Friday Art Walk and DIVA’s programming throughout the month—everything from artist talks and workshops to film showings—makes it a hub for culture.

DIVA even has a gift shop in the reception area. My book is on display there along with one of the portraits from the show.

It was fun to introduce my work to a whole new crowd beyond the Portland bubble…

...and to learn more about what my work means by hearing what this new audience has to say about it!
