Moving to a new place as an independent artist isn’t for the faint of heart.

S’installer dans un nouvel endroit quand on est artiste indépendant nécessite beaucoup de courage.

While I wasn’t an established professional artist when I moved to my current spot, I still had the same environment as I think you are describing-a well established community of artists and patrons who had been doing the same things in the same way for many years. I was (and still am) definitely the outsider! I relate very much to what you are describing. You definitely pick your battles and take your victories where you can find them (which is not always directly in the established arts community).

It’s hard to be accepted in a particular community in any case (which is kind of the human element right?) but your business approach is so versatile. That part I know will work:):):)

Great post again! Thank you!

Moving is not easy. They say it is one of the most stressful things you can do to yourself. I have moved a few times in my life. Sometimes to the right place and a few times to the wrong place. I knew the wrong places almost right away. They are brutal. I am going to be moving next year once again. Hopefully to a right place. Good luck in your new place.

@Libby: I guess we are all like that. A few months ago a new person came to a meet-up I’ve been going to and we all were sort of cautious around them, unsure of how they’d fit in. That said, we quickly went from caution to full-on acceptance of them. Or maybe I did. Maybe I’m just describing my own reactions and pretending like it was the whole group! smile

@Roberta: Brutal, yes. And it’s a good thing that I know the brutality of a bad fit so that I can recognize that what I’m dealing with here is more normal. Bon courage for your move next year! I hope it’s a good one!

Also, one other thing I forgot to mention. Don’t forget how important you are to THIS community. The online artists social media community. I don’t know many artists in my real life but I seem to know a lot in my online life! Your work is amazing and you are world famous here!

@Lynette: Good subject. smile

@Roberta: So true! It’s not a stretch to say that I wouldn’t have survived the move emotionally or financially without my online community. So grateful! THANK YOU. <3
