Sympathetic magic
SYMPATHETIC MAGIC: (n) the phenomenon based on the assumption that a person can be supernaturally affected through an object representing her-him.

Like most self-portraits, this one is a bit more experimental than my portraits of other people.

When I’m working on my own face, I know it’s neither the first nor the last time I’ll do it, so I don’t worry about making a portrait that says everything I can possibly say about its subject.

Painting myself also tends to give rise to details like this one where I’ve written on my hand.
