-—The Kirk Reeves mural—-
Kirk was a Portland street performer and a friend. He passed away in 2012, and last year I painted a 10 by 38 foot mural portrait of him on NE Grand at Lloyd in Portland, Oregon. The mural was not an easy project, and the articles in this section of my blog reveal some of what I learned as I made my first piece of public art as well as what I have learned since. Among others there is this post describing why this memorial was so important to me and this one about the many issues I had with the City as I worked to make this mural happen.
In July, I spoke at a conference in France and this is the video of the presentation with English subtitles! It builds on ideas from my 2014 TEDx talk about the role of imitation in art, and everything is explained in greater detail in this book.
