Reed used to work in television news. In 2004, I painted a number of her former colleagues for a series called Snow Days while also working on a series of portraits of actors in character. For a while, I was creating one or more shows per year, but, after my endometriosis diagnosis in 2009, I slowed down my process a bit. Though I sometimes wish I could do as much work as I used to, I think the art I’ve made since 2009 has been richer. Time and reflection are good for art too.
