For Public Faces, as with most of my series, I choose my subjects without too much planning, usually following one lead to another. For example, I found the paramedic for Public Face’s sister series, Private Masks, because my friend had worked with him. And it was the paramedic who then pointed me in the direction of the young veteran for the series. In the case of Angela, above, I contacted the Portland police spokesperson who also gave me the contact information for a detective.
