I like painting on canvas, but I like painting on canvas patchwork better.  This portrait is rather large at four by nearly three feet, so, instead of cutting a big swath of fresh canvas off of a bolt, I asked my mother to sew some canvas scraps together for me.  Instead, she insisted on showing me how to do it for myself…fair enough!  The seams are chunky, perfect for paint to stick on in all sorts of unplanned ways (see the detail image).

I enjoyed painting on canvas patchwork so much that I painted all of Mutually Beneficial on it.
