When I make portraits of people or of a particular animal, I am often trying to figure out how their features fit together as well as how they move and breathe. It’s a very different experience from drawing an anonymous animal. In those cases, like with this image for example, I’m trying to capture something iconic about the kind of creature I’m depicting.
