Boys’ night out (Orca)
acrylic on panel
10 x 10 inches
Painting a creature from every angle is quite the task, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed with this painting of orcas. It’s also one I’ve enjoyed with my self-portraits over the years: straight on, three-quarter pose, in profile, from below, from behind, and everything in between. To learn more about the making of Boys’ night out, watch this vlog. Below is the text from the book Crime Against Nature that goes with this image—the book can be read and purchased here.
Sometimes boys have sex with boys.
During the summer and fall when orcas congregate to feed on salmon runs, males leave their groups to engage in homosexual behavior, playing with many other males in hour-long sessions.
