Mary and Tom
acrylic on canvas
30 x 60 inches (combined dimensions)
When I paint portraits for commission, I use the color palette that the subjects like most in order to reflect who they are. Not surprisingly, that leaves me with very few commissioned paintings that feature orange. The last time sitters were interested in the least-loved of all the colors was in 2007 with this diptych and this portrait. I would feel a little bad for orange if the few people who do love it weren’t so cool.
