I always ask about my subjects’ favorite colors so that I can include them in the portraits I paint. In this case, the brothers picked Superman colors—primary colors. I’m pleased with how I managed the shapes of the colors across the three compositions, just like seven years later I was happy with the flow of color in the background of this diptych .
