This is the most famous person who has ever commissioned me, and, for twenty years, I refused to tell the Internet who he was. I’d promised him I wouldn’t use his name to make myself famous, and I’m glad I did. I’ve had a lot of success since painting him, and, while I know no one ever makes it entirely on their own, I’m glad that neither this celebrity nor any other single person can say they made me what I am today: that’s an honor reserved for a whole lot of lovely people.
