“How do you meet people?” Sue asked me this towards the end of our first walk, which was an activity I’d suggested to her in an email I sent after hearing her interview with Kelly for her podcast. I explained that social media wasn’t strictly necessary for me, since I’ve made peace with the idea that some people will be creeped out by a message from a rando on the internet. I added that, of course, handling that reaction is made infinitely easier when you have lovely people like her who take a chance on the rando that is me.
