To paint portraits, I work from photos I take myself of my subjects, and many of my nonhuman subjects aren’t thrilled by my process. My DSLR camera is a surprisingly loud object, full of creaks and beeps that scare off the more sensitive, including Uzumaki who, to begin with, stayed far away from me. Once I’d been in his space for a while photographing his sister and brother though, he kindly gave me this especially chill pose to work with.
