Blog / 2015 / Commission Work and How to Define Boundaries

February 23, 2015

People commission art for a variety of reasons, but I happen to think that all the explanations can be distilled down to one main reason. We crave objects that are made just for us.

So many things in our world come off an assembly line, and so much of art is stuff that someone else made while thinking of themselves or of their lives. It only makes sense that we would want something that’s special to us.

It’s not about being self-centered or insecure; it’s about recognizing our uniqueness. Made-to-order used to be the only way a thing got made, and, with all the excess stuff in the world today, I’m thinking it might be something we should consider going back to.

You can hire me to paint or draw something special for you.
