Lola’s portrait was a surprise gift from her son-in-law, but Lola wasn’t the recipient. Her daughter was! Similarly, Peter commissioned me to make this painting of a sweet pup for her main human, who is also his wife. Since I paint mostly from photos I take myself, my portraits can never come completely out of the blue to their subjects, but the finished works never fail to astonish their subjects on some level.
