Artwork / high school and college / My Starry Night

This is not the first copy of another artist’s work that I ever did, but it is probably the most successful. I was a freshman in high school when I made it, and by that time I had mostly given up direct copying in favor of the subtler and infinitely more interesting world of influence. Soon after, I was incorporating other artist’s visual languages into my own, like with this painting of my grandfather inspired by Arnold Mesches.
