I make a lot of self-portraits and, early on in my career, I worried that my obsessive self-portraying was vanity. But, these days, I recognize that these images of me don’t make me anymore egotistical than the next person, because, while self-portraiture may be an indicator of self-love, the truth is that not all self-love is bad.
