My first ever portrait done in gray tones is the face that appears on the t-shirt in this painting. Then I made the portrait of Mark shown here, and then his son’s portrait a few years later. While it’s not something I plan to do a lot of, I was glad to paint in black and white in all three cases. I learned a lot by putting aside my usual pigmets.
