As I paint, I listen to books and lectures and sometimes even television shows—though usually ones I’ve already seen. One of my favorite kinds of media to borrow from the library is any documentary about wildlife, and that’s how I discovered the jerboa and painted it. It’s also how I learned about the fascinating life cycles of hip-pocket frogs and African bullfrogs.
