Artwork / 2019 / Team Unicorn (Summer Camp Series)

My time at the Camp Stomping Ground artist residency inspired this intense mixed media drawing in two ways. For one thing, sharing my art with the kids at the summer camp every day of my week-long residency eventually led me to offering a unicorn horn painting activity, because unicorns and their cousins are a part of my practice that I knew the campers would appreciate.

For another, working with Stomping Ground’s art materials when I was with the kids was frustrating, but also illuminating. On returning to my studio, I went back to materials I first enjoyed in college—materials I han’t touched since 2005. You can watch the making of Team Unicorn.
