I struggled with whether or not to paint these masked up magicians, not because I dislike the universe of Harry Potter, but because its inventor has so thoroughly disappointed her own fans. JK Rowling’s transphobia started out as facile as that of any trans-exclusionary radical feminist, but, as it devolved into complaints about being “canceled,” her opposition to trans rights became something much more considered and far more dangerous.

The creator of Harry and Dumbledore is a bully and a creep, and this piece of fan art is in no way an endorsement of her views. Instead, it’s a celebration of everyone who adores this magical tale.
