Blog / 2020 / #LifesaversFanArt: SpongeBob SafetyPants

September 8, 2020

Please join in this effort to make wearing a mask cool! Share this fan art, make some of your own, and tag it all #LifesaversFanArt so we can bring these inspiring works together.

The original SpongeBob painting is for sale for $150 plus shipping—see all currently available artworks. I can’t make prints of SpongeBob SafetyPants available through my print-on-demand shop because Redbubble is a good little lap dog to licensing companies, but, as soon as more of the series is done, I’ll make a set of Lifesavers Fan Art postcards available through my mailing lists: sometimes, all the time, or Patreon.

Patreon Palooza showcasing the work of Donna Downey, Mindy Lacefield, Kae Pea, Elizabeth St. Hilaire, and Gwenn Seemel

Celebrating Patreon Palooza today chez Gwenn, we are focusing on Mindy Lacefield! Here’s my mini-interview with the mixed media artist who is creating from her eight year old self:

GWENN: What totally unexpected thing have you discovered about yourself in the pandemic?

MINDY: The one thing that I have discovered is that I rely so much on lip reading to understand people during conversation. After realizing that my hearing is not what it used to be, I divert all questions to my husband. I did see a mask online that was clear plastic and fabric so you could still show off your lipstick but they also noted that it was great also for the hearing impaired. I agree!

GWENN: What’s something unusual that makes you laugh in a full-on guffaw?

MINDY: So many things come to mind about laughter including the antics of my poodles. But one TV show has me in stitches always. The show is I.T. Crowd made in the UK. Here is a quote from Roy: “Oh, don’t talk to me about balloons. They explode suddenly and unexpectedly. They’re filled with the capacity to give me a little fright, and I find that unbearable.”

GWENN: What is your favorite character from movies, TV, or books? Why?

MINDY: Again I have so many characters that I love including Captain Marvel, Princess Leia, Captain Jean Luc Picard, Neo in Matrix, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. But my absolute favorite character is the T-800 in the Terminator movies. I think it’s the protector aspect of the T-800 with Sarah and John Conner. Plus Sarah Conner is a Bad-A$s! All of the movies including the 1st through the 6th have an acute sense of familiarity following a distinct formula pattern throughout each. I am a Terminator nerd!
