Gwenn Seemel speaking at University City Science Center’s Venture Café in Philadelphia

Most of us know that the art business isn’t like other businesses, but we may have a harder time putting our finger on what that means for independent artists looking to make a living.

On May 6th at 5:30p (Philly time), I’ll lay it all out as part of Venture Café Philadelphia’s online event! You can catch the talk live and participate in the discussion by going here.

I’ve been going to Venture Café’s first Thursday art events for few months now. They often have an art speaker like me followed by a gallery tour that I almost prefer to an IRL gallery tour. What you miss out on in terms of seeing artwork in person, you gain in terms of conversation and connection. Something about meeting other creatives from the comfort of my own studio makes the whole thing so much more fun!

Favorite discoveries made through the event include the artist Kara Mshinda, whose graffitied collages make my eyeballs happy, as well as the ephemeral online-only gallery S.N.A.I.L.—I am obsessed with their mission statement.
