VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
I painted this portrait in 2023. The subject is cookies-and-cream ice cream pressed into the shape of a dog, and her name is Bindi—AKA Bindiana Jones or Binderella, depending on how well you know her.
I painted Bindiana to go with this portrait, whose subject is wonder, whimsy, and wicked smarts pressed into the shape of a loving human who is my dear friend and who was also one of the first people I met in Lambertville when I moved here four years ago. I painted Binderella and Jennn as part of Friend Request, which is a collection of portraits that’s best described as an analog version of Facebook that helped me find my way in town.
Fast forward a few years, and here I am arriving at Jennn’s wedding, where my partner and I would be serving as the Bindi’s assistants. Bindiana the Bearer of Rings has discovered that my pockets are full of treats. In this photo, she’s watching intently as more of her favorite people leave the “green room” for the ceremony. This is the Bindi-eye view of the happenings. And here’s David releasing the hound—who must, of course, greet her guests. I was at the front to receive Binderella while Rich, the groom, retrieved the rings from a pocket in her outfit.
Rich who is engineering know-how, thoughtfulness, and not a small amount of impishness all pressed into the shape of delightful human who is, in my world, one of the very best people to go trick-or-treating with. Rich whom I painted as a wedding gift for all three of these lovely creatures.
