Explorer is the culmination of over a decade of work. Beginning in 2010, I painted the animals of the Chinese zodiac every year, starting with this rabbit and going through this dragon, these snakes, this horse, this goat, this monkey, these chickens, this fox, this pig, and this rodent, until I arrived at these cows and this tiger!

Since most of my projects don’t take years to complete, this series is special to me. It became a kind of longterm meditation on the ways we assign meaning to our lives and find connections between each other, and it sparked reflection on topics as varied as the snarkiness of the saying “when pigs fly” and the fallacy of the rebel/conformist binary.
